Agora (ISSN 2242-2528) is the online magazine of Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The magazine (ISSN 1456-114X) is also published in print once a year, only in Finnish.

We also publish blog posts about the work at SAMK and the people who do it, topics from studies to research and the politics of higher education – with a personal touch.

From Thailand to Finland, Mechatronics student ‘Ken’ Jirayu Vasutheprungsun found not only a practical and hands-on approach to engineering studies at SAMK, but also a chance to pursue his passion for technology, racing culture, and building a future in Finland.

Growth continues – A record number of students graduated from SAMK again in 2025

In 2025, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) once again reached a record high in the number of graduates. The number of graduates has increased for several consecutive years.

Workplace nutritional guidance benefits both employees and employers

A nutrition study carried out in companies across the Satakunta region shows that there is room for improvement in the diets of working-age adults. The eating habits of a total of 167 employees were assessed using food diaries in the RAVI study, which was conducted throughout Satakunta between 2023 and 2026.

SAMK researcher shines in international LIBS competition – second place among top experts

Researching Senior Lecturer Toni Aaltonen from SAMK participated at the end of January in the EMSLIBS conference (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) held in Senlis, France. In connection with the conference, a globally high-level LIBS Data Challenge competition was organized, where Aaltonen achieved a second place.

Last summer, SAMK, the City of Pori and the University of Turku signed a letter of intent to develop education, research and innovation activities utilizing space technology in Satakunta.

Venture Science Center held its first opening session at SAMK

Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) took an important step toward strengthening its innovation and collaboration ecosystem with the successful informal opening session of the Venture Science Center (VSC).

I also act as an executive representative for the High technology foundation of Satakunta.
