Students dive into the world of responsible locally produced food during an international intensive week

SAMK is once again organising an international intensive week, Business Week, in early October. This year, the event will be organised in collaboration with Satakunnan Osuuskauppa (Satakunta Cooperative Society). The theme is locally produced food and food responsibility.

In the photo, students Bhanupriya Sarangal from Hogeschool PXL and Dominika Lapinska from Hogeschool Rotterdam are the Instagram contributors.
Last year, the theme of a similar intensive week was storytelling in social media marketing. The picture shows students Bhanupriya Sarangal from Hogeschool PXL and Dominika Lapinska from Hogeschool Rotterdam.

The participants of the Business Week are SAMK degree and exchange students. The intensive week will also include participants from Erasmus+ partner higher education institutions in Croatia, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The students are divided into groups that visit the different sites of Satakunnan Osuuskauppa, such as shops, restaurants and hotels. On these sites, the students will learn about the responsibility measures of Satakunnan Osuuskauppa, especially regarding locally produced food.

International intensive weeks are extremely rewarding for students. You can immediately put into practice what you learn during the week and learn by doing. Working in international teams also allows you to compare practices and learn from other students, says Emma Roinila, Senior Lecturer at SAMK.

Food responsibility as part of communication

During the week, students will also develop their communication skills from the perspective of responsibility. The programme includes lectures and workshops focusing especially on using social media as a part of responsible communication.

Collaboration with SAMK is an important way for us to bring forward our responsibility concerning food, especially as regards sourcing locally produced food and its journey within our cooperative society, says Päivi Huhtamaa, Chief Human Resources Officer of Satakunnan Osuuskauppa.

Through local collaboration, students will get practical examples of how responsibility and locally produced food can be integrated into everyday business and communication.

Business Week is a wonderful opportunity for Satakunnan Osuuskauppa to increase internationality on our own sites when we have international students as guests. Our expectations are high both for the workshop outputs and for the result of students’ work on social media visibility, Huhtamaa adds.
