The visit also brought together representatives from SAMK, the City of Pori, and the University of Turku. Discussions focused on space technology, international collaboration, and future competence needs. The program included a visit to Pori Upper Secondary School as well as an introduction to the activities of SAMK’s RoboAI Research Center.

Inspiring encounters around space topics

At an event held at Pori Upper Secondary School, Tim Kopra shared experiences from his career as an astronaut and from international space missions. Scott Rodriguez introduced NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future missions to Mars. The event attracted strong interest among students.

– I’d love to see some of you become astronauts. And remember, when your classes feel hard, it means you’re preparing yourself for something bigger. One day, all that hard work will pay off, said Kopra in his speech.

During the visit, the guests also explored the laboratories of SAMK’s RoboAI Research Center and the activities of the RoboAI Academy. The visit highlighted SAMK’s strengths in applied research, hands-on education, and building collaboration with companies and industry.

Collaboration around space continues to grow

The visit was organised in cooperation with the Consulate General of Finland in Houston and is part of ongoing efforts in the region to build international networks related to the space sector. The visit is connected to broader collaboration between the City of Pori, SAMK, and the University of Turku to develop a space-related education program in the Satakunta region.
