SAMK and NMU collaborate to develop a Master’s level study module in rehabilitation technology

The TecRe project aims to promote Master's level rehabilitation technology education by developing and implementing a comprehensive study module collaboratively designed by Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) and Bogomolets National Medical University (NMU), Ukraine.

The primary goal is to equip students and educators with the skills to utilize technology to enhance holistic functioning and rehabilitation, while contributing to the creation of innovative, client- and patient-centered solutions and services.

To achieve this objective, a three-part study module was developed. Two components of the Technology in Rehabilitation course, each valued at 5 ECTS, have already been successfully piloted:

  • Introduction to Welfare Technology in Rehabilitation (Spring 2024)
  • Theoretical Basis for Developing Technology in Rehabilitation (Autumn 2024)

These courses, delivered entirely online, focused on foundational concepts, including rehabilitation principles, ethical considerations, and technological applications. The course structure promotes both individual learning and collaborative teamwork, integrating mixed groups of SAMK and NMU students to enhance international collaboration. Despite the ongoing challenges in Ukraine and associated group work difficulties, all student groups successfully completed the courses, demonstrating remarkable perseverance and dedication.

From 3rd to 7th February 2025, the same students will participate in an Intensive Program (IP) hosted by SAMK. This program will feature workshops, lectures, practical sessions with welfare technologies, study visits, and extensive group work. The core focus will be on project-based learning, where participants will address a real-world case in a small-scale project while applying their knowledge of project management, service design, and innovative thinking.

The TecRe project continues to pave the way for advancements in rehabilitation education and international collaboration, contributing to the development of cutting-edge solutions for global rehabilitation challenges.
