What does your studies involve?

The International Tourism Management programme provides you with the skills and knowledge for an international career in tourism and hospitality. You are prepared to manage and market sustainable tourism and service businesses, design and deliver tourism events and experiences in multicultural settings and develop strong academic skills that support lifelong learning. The programme highlights global perspectives and offers opportunities for international mobility through student exchanges and practical training.

The flexible programme allows you to shape your career path based on your interests and study choices. You collaborate with tourism industry stakeholders, such as companies, destination organizations, and associations at various levels.

Studies take place on campus

The International Tourism Management programme uses a variety of teaching and learning method, such as exams, essays, learning diaries, case studies, development plans, event organization, service creation, study visits, and creative tasks including videos, presentations, and campaigns.

Studies are conducted as daytime contact teaching at SAMK's Pori campus. Studying required full-time commitment and regular presence on campus.

Specialisations

What are your options for specialisation?

The International Tourism Management programme values lifelong learning and recognizes prior learning. The flexible structure allows you to follow an individual study path, enabling you to focus on areas that match your personal interests and career goals.

The programme provides a solid foundation in tourism and hospitality, while giving you the opportunity to deepen your expertise through focused study modules. Basic Studies build essential academic and professional skills. From there, the curriculum expands into specialized areas such as Tourism and Hospitality Business, Sales and Marketing of Tourism Products, and Tourism Events and Experiences.

The Managing Tourism Business module develops the strategic and leadership skills you will need in the industry. Research and practical skills are also strongly emphasized. Elective Studies give you the opportunity to personalize your learning path based on your goals and interests.

Practical training provides hands-on experience in the field and helps you apply your skills in real working life. It is worth 30 ECTS credits and is recommended during summer breaks. You can start your practical training after your first year of studies. Practical training is also a great way to specialize in an area that interests you.

You can work in international private companies or public organizations within the service, tourism, and hospitality sectors. The flexible programme allows you to shape your career path based on your interests and study choices.

SAMK organised an international Business Week event focusing on locally produced food and its sustainability. The event brought together degree and exchange students from SAMK and students from Erasmus+ partner higher education institutions in Croatia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

SAMK is once again organising an international intensive week, Business Week, in early October. This year, the event will be organised in collaboration with Satakunnan Osuuskauppa (Satakunta Cooperative Society). The theme is locally produced food and food responsibility.
