High-quality education, student support services, and internationalisation

Based on the AVOP survey results, SAMK’s key strengths are particularly related to the quality of teaching and guidance, well-structured studies, and internationalisation. Students evaluate the teaching as professional and the guidance as effective, and consider the structure and planning of studies to strongly support their progress. Internationalisation and language studies also stand out clearly in the national comparison, where SAMK ranks second in Finland.

The results also show clear positive development compared to the previous year. The greatest improvements have occurred in teaching and guidance, the thesis process, as well as connections to working life and career support. At the same time, overall student satisfaction has increased, which is reflected in a clear rise in overall ratings and study satisfaction.

Overall, SAMK ranks among the top group nationally in student feedback: it places 4th in Finland in bachelor’s degrees and 3rd in master’s degrees. In addition, SAMK achieves several top-three positions in individual question categories, such as internationalisation (2nd), teaching (3rd), and study planning and guidance (3rd).

AVOP, the nationwide graduation phase student feedback survey for universities of applied sciences, is conducted annually. In the survey, students evaluate and give feedback on the education they have received. The results are used both to develop the institution’s operations and nationally to steer and fund education. The survey is completed by all graduating degree students at universities of applied sciences.

Excellent employability after studies

Our vision is that every one of our students will be employed.

The results of the career follow-up survey indicate that SAMK graduates’ careers are built on a solid foundation, also in the long term.

Graduates report that their degree has continued to support their career even five years after graduation, and approximately 70% have been continuously employed since graduation. In addition, around 70% are working in a field corresponding to their degree five years after graduation.

Universities of applied sciences conduct a career monitoring survey for students who have graduated from a university of applied sciences with a bachelor’s or master’s degree five years earlier. the graduates’ career paths, employment situation and satisfaction with the degree they completed.

Exstensive cross-institutional study networks

Cross-institutional studying allows students to take courses offered by other higher education institutions. We are involved in several cross-institutional study networks. The networks and agreements for cross-institutional studies vary and cover a wide range of studies. Many networks focus only on a specific field of study.
