Students have opportunities to complete their practical training right at SAMK. While they are learning through practicing, they also contribute positive values to SAMK community.
Supporting the region, one small step at a time
Le Viet Lan Chi was a young student from Vietnam, she was in her third year of the Artificial Intelligence programme. During the summer, she was a part of the SAMK RoboAI Research Center’s project team.
The extensive project she and her team worked on was named International Talents to Satakunta (ITS), of which the objective was to make international expertise a long-term part of Satakunta’s innovation ecosystem.
Her responsibility was building a translation tool for multilingual events. She explained that the tool would assist the panellists with giving speeches comfortably in Finnish while still delivering the ideas precisely to an international audience. It would also solve security problems and help reduce costs since it was a locally run application.
– Building an application from scratch is a challenging and humbling experience, yet it is a very educational and practical way to learn.
The internship was not only a valuable learning opportunity for Chi, but through this, she also contributed to the innovation and development of the Satakunta region.
Building a harmonious international environment
Yazdani Ahmadabadi Mehdiwas a second-year Mechanical Engineering student from Iran. He was the International Relations Trainee at SAMK International Office.
During the autumn semester, Mehdi was the go-to person for students from abroad if they needed assistance. He supported them with matters such as getting used to the SAMK’s academic system or settling in Pori. His mission was to connect international students and the local Finnish community. By working on student engagement activities and promotional campaigns, he created an inclusive environment where newcomers could find their footing and feel at home.
Mehdi described his experience working at SAMK as valuable. From the internship, he enhanced his skills while learning about Finnish working culture. The best part for him was meeting the staff of SAMK and created meaningful networks.
– My colleagues are extremely warm, supportive, and open-minded, which made me feel welcome from day one.

Learning by doing
Kieu Huyen Le is a student from Vietnam. She graduated over the summer with a degree in International Tourism Management. In the fall semester, she worked as a trainee at SAMK Communication Services.
Her tasks included working with marketing channels such as social media, online articles or internal newsletters to communicate with the international audience. She also participated in student engagement and promotional activities like SAMK Wellbeing Week.
The experience was beneficial to her career because she could put the theories she learned into practice. Le shared that even though her main field of study was Tourism, there were multiple courses about communication, marketing and social media.
– My courses taught me the theory of marketing channels, but here I got to run them, doing everything from writing content to designing the visuals.
In addition, new and unfamiliar responsibilities under the Communication Services allowed her to develop fresh skills.
