The presence of university rectors and presidents underscored the significance of the occasion and the strength of the alliance. The highlight of the event was the joint signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This pivotal moment formalised the shared commitment to sustain and increase the resources dedicated to the alliance and to advance together toward a more integrated, impactful, and resilient European University collaboration.

This symbolic and strategic act marked not only the consolidation of the achievements of recent years but also the launch of a new phase founded on mutual trust, shared values, and a long-term vision. DIVERSE reflects a collective determination to elevate the alliance to new heights.

Throughout the meeting, partner institutions shared concrete examples of how they are already benefiting from their participation in DIVERSE. These include increased student recruitment, access to competitive research funding, greater mobility opportunities for students and staff, as well as enhanced brand recognition and institutional prestige across Europe.

The alliance’s Working Groups on Research, Learning and Teaching, and Mobility presented their main achievements and outlined objectives for the next phase. Importantly, they also outlined key challenges currently faced and engaged directly with the rectors to jointly begin shaping strategic responses to overcome them.

The meeting also addressed the future strategic direction of DIVERSE, aligning it with the evolving priorities of the European Universities Initiative. The alliance reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the initiative’s standards, continuing to deliver tangible results, and demonstrating its long-term added value within the European Higher Education Area.
