As a new release for the upcoming boating season, the PortMate project has published a free web application for boaters and small port owners. The app offers up-to-date content focused especially on safety matters and green actions.
The app has videos showing how to safely approach small ports, video tips for environment-friendly boaters and ports as well as short video courses displaying the use of the flare, for example. The videos and text materials focusing on safety and resource efficiency are in English, but all videos have subtitles in Finnish and Swedish, too.
You can for example search the app for suitable ports when you are planning a boat trip or you can even listen to the latest sea weather report. The app also offers real-time wind information. At the moment the app covers the project’s pilot ports in Finland, Åland and Sweden but the aim is that in the future as many small ports as possible would add their information to the app.
Green investments
In several pilot ports of the PortMate project in Rauma, Finland, Sottunga and Kökar, Åland and Gävle and Söderhamn, Sweden, green investments have been made altogether with almost million euros. In Rauma, a movable septic waste pump-out station was installed in Kuuskajaskari small port in the summer 2018. In Syväraumanlahti small port energy saving and efficient led lights have been installed. In Kylmäpihjala small port a new maintenance building with solar panels will be finished in the summer 2019.
Info
The PortMate web app can be found at https://www.portmate.eu/.
The three-year PortMate project is funded by the EU Interreg Central Baltic program. The lead partner is the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences from Finland. Project partners are from Finland, Åland and Sweden.
The beta version of the PortMate app was released on the 9th of May 2019 and the upcoming boating season will serve as the test period for the app. The project team is hoping to get a lot of user feedback which can then be used for developing and finishing the app – the finish line being the PortMate final conference on the 12th of September 2019.
