OpenSAMK again brought secondary school students to campus

SAMK had an OpenSAMK event in Pori. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the education on offer and get answers from students to questions about different fields of study and studying in general.

Secondary school students had the opportunity to explore study programs at OpenSAMK.

OpenSAMK, or Open Doors Day, was again held at the Pori Campus. The event provided a comprehensive presentation of SAMK’s degree programmes to secondary school students, teachers and career guidance staff. OpenSAMK was attended by visitors from all over Satakunta.

As in previous years, the event included presentations of degree programmes and training, student interviews and a tour of the learning environments. During OpenSAMK, a learning info session for career guidance starr was also organised, with a variety of speakers.

Current students played a key role

At OpenSAMK, current students played a central role, presenting their field of studies and talking about their studies through their points and in interviews. Students also led guided tours of the robotics and mechanical engineering laboratory.

Our students will be employed: Tina’s Journey in Sustainable Tourism

– Funnily enough, I hadn’t even heard of Finland before meeting my husband, says Tina Salo from Malaysia. She graduated from SAMK in 2024 with a degree in International Tourism Management and now works as a receptionist at Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Pori.

SAMK will participate in SuomiAreena, held from June 24–27, 2025. SAMK will have a tent at Kansalaistori, featuring daily changing themes. In addition, SAMK will co-host a discussion titled "Finland thrives on the West Coast" (in Finnish).

The five-day intensive program was aimed at ICT students and included theoretical lectures and hands-on practical exercises.

The annual CERN Spring Campus event was held for the first time in Finland last week, hosted by Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK). This international event, focusing on computer science and modern technology, attracted a record number of participants.
