Master’s Degree students’ project supports the integration of Ukrainian immigrants increasing they knowledge
In the Degree Programme in Well-being and Health promotion students carried out a work-life-oriented research and development task in a small group. The goal of the assignment was to design a project using working methods of promoting well-being and health, from a customer-oriented perspective.
The production was presented on April at Liinaharja’s reception center.
The idea that arose in the project’s working group about increasing information on exercise and free time hobby opportunities for immigrants was presented to the Liinaharja reception center. The topic was felt to be important and topical in terms of promoting well-being and health. Exercise is one of the means of integration.
The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine has increased applications for temporary protection in Finland. According to statistics, there were 52,066 pending applications in March 2023, of which 51,075 were applications from Ukrainian citizens. According to the Finnish Immigration Service’s estimate, another 30,000 to 40,000 Ukrainian citizens are expected to arrive in Finland in 2023. According to this, the war will reflect in Finland in the future also and we need activities promoting integration.
There are many free exercise opportunities in Satakunta. Exercise helps immigrants, for example, in adopting the rules and ways of working in Finnish society. It helps to create new friendships and networks, and improves the language. Exercise also plays an important role in mental health work. At its best, exercise promotes harmony between different nationalities.
In addition to the working group, the social and health service center Soteekki was also involved in the implementation of the project. Soteekki’s student group implemented participatory workshop activities for immigrants and produced the content of the information day under the guidance of the project group.
