The Finnish National Board on Research Integrity, TENK, guides research ethics at the national level, for example by strengthening compliance with research ethics principles, preventing research misconduct, and coordinating ethical review in the human sciences. SAMK as an organisation is committed to complying with the guidelines developed by TENK.
Failure to comply with research integrity (RI) means deviating from its basic principles. RI violations are divided into two forms, misconduct and indifference to research integrity. For more information on the investigations into the alleged violations of research integrity, see the RI web pages and contact the organisation’s research ethics adviser (details at the bottom of the page).
As a member of the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences Arene, SAMK follows the compiled guidelines in, e.g., teaching and thesis supervision. Find the ethical guidelines for theses at universities of applied sciences and the guidelines for the preparation of a data management plan.

SAMK is committed to complying with the principles of open science and to strengthening its transparency competence. For more information about open science, open publishing, and data management, visit the Open Science and Education page.
It is the responsibility of the person conducting the research or thesis to find out the research permit practices for the work in question before undertaking the research, project or thesis. The research permit is applied from the organisation that the work focuses on.
Announcement of research form OP22B is used for small-scale researches at SAMK, which are implemented by the personnel to develop the operation or by the students as their exercises before the actual thesis. For partial researches connected to some research entity with previously granted research permit.
Attach to the application a short report of the research and send the announcement and research information scanned as email attachments to tutkimusluvat@samk.fi. When collecting research material, remember to inform that research permit has been granted for the research.
Form OP23B is used for researches concerning Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
After completing the application until the signature phase, send the application as an email attachment to the address tutkimusluvat@samk.fi and inclose your research plan approved by the supervisor. When
collecting research material, remember to inform that research permit has been granted for the research.

The Human Sciences Ethics Committee of Satakunta University of Applied Sciences is responsible for the ethical review of non-medical research in the human sciences.
If an ethical review statement is required for the research, it must be applied , and the statement received must be positive before research permits can be sought from the target organisation.
The tasks of the research integrity adviser are to promote research integrity (RI) and provide low-threshold advice on research ethics and RI issues. Advice is also available in cases of violations or alleged violations of RI. The support is personal and strictly confidential and offered mainly to members of our organisation. The research ethics adviser is trained by TENK and acts as TENK’s contact person at SAMK. Contact details can be found at the bottom of this page.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) also has an impact on research and education. SAMK encourages its members to act responsibly as users and developers of technology and to think critically about the impact of AI. In short, the ethics of AI is all about the principles and values that guide how AI is used and developed.
