Agreement signed by SAMK and WinNova creates a powerful channel directly from vocational studies to higher education

SAMK and vocational education provider WinNova have entered into an agreement, which gives the students of WinNova a possibility to study courses of SAMK already while studying for a vocational qualification in WinNova.

At the moment, there are approximately 50 Electrical and Automation Engineering students on Pori Campus, who have started their studies via the so-called Nopsa route, after graduating from WinNova. More than 160 students have enrolled for Nopsa study path for the year 2021.

Eveliina Asuinmaa is studying for a vocational qualification in Business and Administration at WinNova in Rauma. In Asuinmaa´s opinion Nopsa studies are a good alternative and she warmly recommends them to others as well.

– They don´t take too much time from other studies and simultaneously they will give you a good opportunity to continue your studies at SAMK, which I´m going to utilize. Nopsa has given me many good basic skills, which have helped me in my studies at WinNova as well as life in general, Asuinmaa tells us.

As a part of upper secondary vocational education and training, young people are given a sneak peek of higher education and they have a chance to study on SAMK learning environments. Based on the completed Nopsa studies, the students are able to continue their studies at SAMK for a Bachelor´s degree.

– Developing the Nopsa study path has provided opportunities for many operators in the area. Nopsa study path is an important operations model for securing the availability of competent workforce for the region. The operators and SAMK wish that during the studies – and especially after graduation – the students are employed in the region of Satakunta and thus develop the working life in the area, says Timo Mattila, Vice President for Education at SAMK, of the agreement.

– For me, this has been a perfect path. I have gained good skills for the mathematical side, needed in the field of Technology, as well as for Swedish. It is a lot easier to keep up in Nopsa path studies, so you can learn better, describes Andre Torm, who took part in Nopsa study path and now studies Electrical and Automation Engineering at SAMK.
