CERN Spring Campus in Finland for the first time – SAMK to host the event in May

CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, is organising its annual CERN Spring Campus Event in Finland for the first time. In May 2025, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) will host this major international event focusing on computer science and modern technology.

For the first time, Finnish students will have the unique opportunity to participate in this prestigious event, gaining direct exposure to cutting-edge research and technologies at CERN.The five-day intensive event at SAMK aims to inspire ICT students, as well as showcase career opportunities and current research at CERN. The CERN Spring Campus was first held in 2014. Both Bachelor and Master students are expected to participate.

– It is a great honor to be the first Finnish higher education institution to host the CERN Spring Campus event. SAMK students will have the opportunity to study under the guidance of CERN’s top experts and explore the internship opportunities offered by CERN. The event is also a strong demonstration that SAMK is actively building cooperation with European universities and research institutes, says Jari Multisilta, Managing Director and President of SAMK.

Unique links between SAMK, CERN and the global scientific community

The curriculum of the event is designed to combine theoretical lectures with practical hands-on exercises. Lecturers will be engineers and other experts working at CERN in areas such as IT or physics contributing to providing the infrastructure necessary to host scientists from all over the world collaborating together around the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and other CERN research projects.

The programme includes lectures on topics such as innovations in computing science, the latest technologies and their practical applications in industrial or research contexts. In addition, a hackathon will be organised for students to challenge them to put what they have learned into practice and create solutions to real-life problems. The event will also conclude with an exam to assess the understanding of the key concepts covered during the programme.

– The Spring Campus embodies CERN’s values of international collaboration through education and cultural exchange. The event has brought hundreds of students together to share our passion for physics and computer science – inspiring the future scientists and engineers of tomorrow, says Derek Mathieson, Founder of the CERN Spring Campus concept.

In addition to lectures and practical exercises, students will have the opportunity to network with CERN professionals and other international students from various countries.

The aim is to strengthen collaboration, create lasting links between SAMK, CERN and the global scientific community and open doors to new research opportunities and cooperation.

The CERN Spring Campus event will take place from 5 to 9 May 2025.

West Coast Collaboration generates growth to whole Finland

For three years, the West Coast region has engaged in close collaboration among universities of applied sciences, supporting both local and national growth and competitiveness. The region’s companies and business sector have played a key role in this cooperation, which is significant for the benefit of all Finland.
