A safe learning environment and shared responsibility
The entire SAMK community – students, teachers, and staff – is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Harassment and bullying are addressed actively and at a low threshold. At SAMK, the Student Union SAMMAKKO has appointed harassment contact persons whose role is to support students who have experienced harassment or bullying and to help resolve inappropriate behaviour in accordance with SAMK’s guidelines.
What is harassment or inappropriate behaviour?
Harassment can be recurring or one-time inappropriate behaviour, which may take the form of:
- Offensive words, gestures, or messages
- Repeated belittling or exclusion
- Sexually suggestive or harassing behaviour
- Discriminatory treatment based on gender, age, ethnic background, disability, or other personal characteristics.
Bullying is repeated and systematic mistreatment. Even occasional inappropriate behavior may be harassment or negatively affect a student’s well-being.
What to do if you encounter harassment or inappropriate behaviour?
SAMK has zero tolerance for harassment and bullying. If you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour:
- Speak directly to the person involved, if you feel safe doing so.
- Talk to a SAMK peer tutor or teacher tutor, who can, with your permission, bring the matter to the harassment contact person.
- You can also discuss the situation confidentially with student health services (FSHS) or the SAMK’s church education workers.
- You can always contact the harassment contact personlaunch yourself for low-threshold support.
All situations will be handled confidentially. Solutions may be sought through dialogue or a formal hearing. In serious or repeated cases, disciplinary measures may be used.
