The experts of movement and functional capacity
A physiotherapist is able to draw up a high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy plan together with a client and base the plan on assessment, the client’s needs and clinical reasoning. The physiotherapist takes into consideration the ethical guidelines, legislation and effectiveness in his or her work. He or she has good intercultural, interactive and educational skills and is able to participate in projects involving multidisciplinary cooperation.
The performances in a course can include exercises, exams, written assignments, portfolios and various projects. The studies are partly carried out in small groups. This enables the development of different areas of professional competence and learning skills in group work and client/patient work. A student may perform part of theoretical studies and clinical practice abroad. Finnish language will be studied during the studies. The aim is to reach satisfactory level in Finnish.
SAMK students will be employed
You may work within the field of rehabilitation both in the private and public sector. Your core knowledge is in the field of assessment and support of movement and function. You can work with people of all ages in hospitals, health care centres, private practices, industry, sport clubs, clinics and non-governmental organizations.

A physiotherapist is able to draw up a high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy plan together with a client and base the plan on assessment, the client’s needs and clinical reasoning. The physiotherapist takes into consideration the ethical guidelines, legislation and effectiveness in his or her work. He or she has good intercultural, interactive and educational skills and is able to participate in projects involving multidisciplinary cooperation.
Internationality and cooperation
Internationality is integrated into the degree program as a natural part of it. The student works in groups and networks with people from different cultural backgrounds and thereby develops intercultural communication skills. The student can also complete studies or practical training periods abroad.
During the studies, cooperation with private and public sector and the third sector, e.g. sports clubs is implemented.
The practical training can be completed in the private or public sector, or in another separately approved working environment, fulfilling the set criteria, either in Finland or abroad.
Thesis
Bachelor’s thesis consists of 15 ECTS and it can be completed by one student or a group of two students. In thesis studies, the student demonstrates his or her ability to apply knowledge and skills in practical expert duties related to the professional studies. The topics of Bachelor’s theses are characteristically related to work practice and they are carried out in co-operation with a variety of physiotherapy settings in Finland or abroad. The results of the thesis are immediately applicable.
