Officially called The Annual General Assembly (AGA23), the themes of the conference vary from year to year. Key topics include the development of maritime education and research activities. In 2023, the theme will be Quality of the Education of Global Maritime Professionals, and the conference will showcase aspects of technology, safety and sustainability in maritime education.

IAMU selects the conference organiser each year. SAMK has been an active member of IAMU for 21 years. The responsibility of organising the annual conference provides an opportunity to present maritime knowledge from Satakunta and Finland to the international maritime community.

International recognition for Satakunta University of Applied Sciences

– The organisational responsibility is a great recognition for Finnish and Satakunta maritime education and research, says Riitta Tempakka, Dean of Logistics and Maritime Technology, SAMK, who is in charge of the event’s organising committee. SAMK was selected as the organiser of the annual conference from a field of nine applicants. The previous conference was held in Batumi, Georgia in the autumn of 2022.

In 2023, more specific topics for the conference will include technological developments in shipping, maritime safety management, maritime environmental sustainability and training of global maritime professionals. The theme and topics are relevant for maritime education and research.

SAMK also hosts the Maritime Logistics Research Center, which complements and supports maritime education through extensive national and international research activities.

The event will bring together maritime experts from over 50 universities and colleges worldwide. The event will also include a dedicated IAMUS conference for maritime students.
