SAMK hosts international AMiCI conference in June in Pori
The second conference of COST AMiCI network will be organized on 6–8 June at Palmgren Conservatory in Pori, Finland. The theme of the conference is ‘Antimicrobial Coatings in Health Care: from Innovations to the Market’.
Keynote speakers will cover issues along the AMC value chain including patents, legislation, regulation, implementation in hospitals and everyday life cases. The event will also contain working in teams, the meeting of the core group of the network and visits to pilot sites. Companies from the field exhibit their goods at the mini trade fair.


The conference takes place at the Palmgren Conservatory, which is located at the city centre of Pori and next to the new SAMK Campus.
The conference is aimed at researchers, coating and hygiene industries, health care and hygiene managers, health insurance organisations and policy makers at national and EU levels. Approximately 100 participants are expected to take part in the conference. SAMK students from the degree programme in Hospitality, Tourism and Experience Management will support the organisation of the conference.
Network Researches Infections Linked to Treatment
AMiCi network (Anti-Microbial Coating Innovations to Prevent Infectious Diseases) researches the use of anti-microbial nano coatings to prevent infectious diseases in health care. The network consists of over 60 universities, research institutes and companies from 29 countries. The network was granted funding in 2016 and the action continues for four years altogether.
SAMK has been in a central role since the AMiCI network was established. The Vice Chairperson of the network is Research Manager Minna Keinänen-Toivola and Senior Researcher Merja Ahonen acts as the Deputy Director in the team of the Risk Assessment and Management.
The core group of the network met in Ireland, Limerock in March 2017. Watch a video from the meeting.
