SAMK focuses on the services for the ageing and international nursing education
SAMK focuses on the services for the ageing and international competence in its social and health care operations. A new nursing degree programme in English will complement other studies in social and health care.
The aim is to attract new nursing students to SAMK from outside Europe and immigrants.
“We have signed an agreement on a double degree with the Faculty of Nursing in the University of Changzhou in China. The goal is for the students of the University of Changzhou to complete a nursing degree complying with the EU directives”, Dean Tuula Rouhiainen-Valo says.
The cooperation agreement makes it possible for the nursing students of the University of Zhangzhou to come to SAMK to study for a Bachelor´s degree in Nursing after they have completed two years of studies in China.
SAMK has cooperated with the University of Changzhou in the fields of Business Administration and Technology for a long time. The Faculty of Social Services and Health Care started its cooperation with China in a situation where China is facing challenges in its elderly care and reforms are needed. The cooperation speeded up remarkably after SAMK hired an employee to work in Changzhou.
SAMK has extensive knowledge and competence in the field of elderly care and it organizes Bachelor´s and Master´s degree level education in elderly care. China cooperation also includes cooperation with the different provinces and private elderly care sector in the City of Changzhou, with approximately 5 million inhabitants. The goal is to strengthen the professional competence of the employees, e.g. in issues related to memory diseases. The reform of the elderly care in China requires creating new operation models and SAMK has been invited to take that challenge as well.
The goal is to strengthen the professional competence of the employees, e.g. in issues related to memory diseases.
International student exchange may lead to studying the whole 3.5-year degree at SAMK because starting in autumn 2017 SAMK will provide a Bachelor´s degree programme in nursing with tuition in English.
