Juhani Tarna’s jubilee exhibition in the Art Hall of Pori Campus

Juhani Tarna’s jubilee exhibition is the second exhibition on SAMK Pori Campus. The exhibition includes works from years 1989–2017, even some which have not been shown before.

Juhani Tarna, one of the two founders of Kankaanpää Art School, turned 80 this autumn. Despite his age he is still doing art. The exhibition includes works from this year.

” I have had a good year”, Tarna says.

Tarna has always been interested in architecture and how the space and colour cooperate.  He liked the modern forms of the new campus, when he came there to plan the exhibition.

”Looks good. My works fit well in this architectural form language.”

Tarna says that in its own way time is manifested in structures. “When I’m looking at buildings built in the last decades, I can see and feel they have connections to some of my own works. People see how houses and cities are born and constructed. The housing estates with their element houses and public buildings and markets seem to be related to my own works.  And it’s no wonder, because I lived in that era and took part in the creation of his style. I even anticipated some of it in my paintings and writings.”

The works in the exhibition represent a variety of forms. They interact with the space but also with each other. The exhibition aims at being succinct but also elaborate to create a dynamic experience for the spectator and fulfil the need for experiencing something new.

The exhibition is open, when the campus is open from 27 Oct to 1 Dec.2017.
