– The focus has been on degree studies, but we need more flexible, shorter and more individual ways of updating our skills and learning new skills in Finland, said Petri Lempinen, the new Executive Director of the Rector’s Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences.

When innovating, you need to be proactive

When innovating, you need to be proactive, even though the organisations – e.g. hospitals, industries –  may be against your ideas in the beginning. Former rector of Arcada University of Applied Sciences and Chair of UASnet Henrik Wolff highlighted the role of UASes as, e.g. consulting bodies and project leaders in their regions.

The topic ’Reactivity to Pro-activity – How Will Teaching Change Over the Next 20 Years?’ by Doctor Essi Ryymin from HAMK University of Applied Sciences, came as a nice continuum. We need to transform our methods, to collaborate and to share even more than we do right now.

–  Personalised data and data analytics can make your educational experience very personal in the future, she said.

Personalised learning highlights teachers’ coaching and facilitation skills

Besides personalised learning with teachers’ coaching and facilitation skills in the core, Dr. Ryymin visioned six other scenarios for learning in the future: work-based learning, competence-base learning (from exams to showing your skills and knowlegde in more extended environments), man-machine partnership e.g. in problem solving, collaborative learning, life long learning, and global learning with global online mentors and tutors.
