This site gives important information on teaching and studying languages and communication, as well as on various language services offered by SAMK.

Language and communication studies in Bachelor's degree

In accordance with the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, everyone graduated with a Bachelor’s degree knows at least two European languages besides his/her mother tongue.

Elective and preparatory language studies

At SAMK you can study elective and preparatory language studies. We offer elective and preparatory language studies in accordance with SAMK’s annually confirmed language programme.

Information on language studies for new students

Here you find information on beginning the language studies. Important issues are Placement tests (Swedish and/or English) and language tutoring. Also, the contact information on the language tutor teachers can be found here.

Flexible studying of Languages and Communication

SAMK offers you studying languages and communication in a traditional classroom form, on courses entirely online and in combinations of these both.

In addition to these, you can prove your language and communication skills, obtained somewhere else, through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process.

Translation services

Translation services for students include thesis summary translations, language revisions and certificate/diploma translations. Because language teachers do translations and language revisions alongside teaching and their other work, the information about translations or language revisions should reach us well before the deadline. The documents needing translation or proof-reading should be sent to us preferably two weeks, but at least one week before the deadline.

National Certificates of Language Proficiency (YKI) in Finnish language (intermediate B-level

National Language Proficiency (YKI) is the official language testing scheme in Finland. National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI-todistus) is an official document that you need for example if you are applying for Finnish citizenship. The Certificate is useful also when you apply for studying or working in Finland. SAMK students in international degree programs may use this to obtain an official certificate of their language skills.

Language showering and co-simulation – Finnish language and cultural knowledge for international students
