International Summit on Virtual Learning and Cooperation: Workshops
You are welcome to join our international summit online on 14–15 December 2021!
Keynote speeches
It seems implementing Sustainable Development Goals into real world actions as well as strategies has been a challenging task for many companies, organisations and nations. We are lacking affordable tools that help in measuring and evaluating the SDG activities. In order to speed up SDG implementations, we bring together Cognitive AI, Contextual Intelligence and Balanced Scorecards thinking. This enables every individual, company and organisation to start measure-based development processes around SDGs. Idea is that relevant documents (strategies, curriculums, course descriptions, project plans, etc) can be compared to SDGs as written text. No new data, no heavy and time consuming data polishing labelling processes. Outcomes of the analysis are situation reports and predictions from diverse perspectives and gap analysis about what is missing from the curriculum.
The human mind is equipped for brilliance. The case studies of Nobel laureates and creative inventors reveal us fascinating information: we can invent unseen novelties, solve impossible problems and envision to the future. To surpass the current viewpoints and obstacles requires use of intuitive information as well as methods to operate beyond visible logic.
When operating with the current logic, we have good methods to work with: we can analyse and reason. Intuition is a fundamentally different type of information therefore it requires a new set of tools to work with. We cannot often reason intuition since sometimes it appears as an insane thought – which turns out to be a genius idea.
When evaluating the reliability, accuracy and importance of intuitive information, an emotion based feeling is not enough since our emotions and cognition are prone to biases. Therefore, we need to develop our perception skills, discernment skills and ability to integrate the new information.
Radically creative processes and use of intuition challenges our mind, rocks our feelings and requires an extremely safe space. However, digital online platforms enable us to build alternative type of interactions where we may reach new levels of psychological safety.

As part of the new #SAMK2030 -strategy, SAMK has created new double degree master programs in nursing, business and tourism. SAMK has a long tradition in doing international co-operation and building master programs is based on well-established, long-lasting co-operation.
In this workshop we will share our experiences in planning, launching, and implementing double degree programs at master’s level. The focus is on our business and tourism degree programs, Business Management and Entrepreneurship and Tourism Competitiveness Management.
The master programme in tourism is a completely new degree programme in both HEIs and with shared responsibilities, due to which the process has involved constant reflection on both Latvian and Finnish laws, procedures, and educational culture.
The workshop will also discuss experiences from online double master's programs with partners in Morocco, Kosovo and Sarajevo.
The participants are also invited to share their experiences in double degree programs at master’s level. The next step for Tourism Competitiveness Management programme is to look for new international partners, both from tourism industry and from HEIs to collaborate on implementing for example elective studies and research projects. We welcome everyone to share their future plans on international affairs when it comes to master programs.

During the global pandemic and global lockdown whole world digitalized itself. Schools ran on distance education platforms, knowledge workers all over the world stayed home in most cases for more than 1,5 years, people learned how to order food and food supplies directly to home, elderly people contacted family and friends via mobile video connections and many other examples. World is now more ready to take those vital steps in the path of business digitalization. But what does that really mean, where are the business opportunities and how are we going to operate in the digital future?
The aim of this workshop is to discuss the future of digital business and gather actors from the field of digital business. We welcome all to this workshop and kindly ask that all the participants could prepare a (very) short introduction about theirselves and their contribution to the digitalizing world. The aim is also to get seed for digital business research network and possibly create common R&D projects in near future.
Principal Lecturer Heikki Haaparanta has Ph.D. on information technology from University of Tampere, Finland. He has worked at SAMK since 2020 and has started to build research projects in the area of business digitalization. Currently he is in charge of the project that aims to measure and develop the digital maturity of different businesses.
International relations coordinators Sanna Juhantalo and Noora Maja from SAMK will shortly present the international activities of SAMK and the possibilities of blended mobilities in the new Erasmus+ programme.
Kimmo Ahonen (Project Manager, PhD, Tampere University) will cover the topic "Cross-institutional cooperation between University Consortium of Pori and SAMK".
In this workshop two experts in the field of digital learning will tell us how different modes of teaching - contact learning, hybrid learning, online learning and nonstop - affect the planning of teaching from a digipedagogical (meaning both technical and pedagogical) point of view.
Workshop description:
Satakunta University of Applied Sciences has had nationally the best quality of education in the last few years. At SAMK we have been developing, piloting and ultimately deploying an online learning solution as early as 2009. Today the concept of this solution, Hill, is just one platform among our collection of systems that make up the learning environment at SAMK.
The students of higher education face more and more digital technologies and systems during their studies than ever before and as such the way learning adapts to these systems and digital changes is in the core of digipedagogics at SAMK. Not only technology but also different ways of teaching like nonstop courses, online, hybrid and classroom teaching need own planning processes that combine pedagogics and technology. In this session we work together to find best practices support teachers processes in course planning and realizations.
