ACADEMIC YEAR
The academic year 2012–2013 is 30.8.2012 - 26.4.2013. Outside the academic year you can for example pass exams or on-line courses, or do your training.

STUDY
We can offer our students many possibilities to enhance their knowledge and practical skills. In addition to traditional lectures, thesis and exams, we offer various cances to learn through projects. The Enterprise Accelerator helps students who have a business idea or an operating company. The students will also be assisted in enterprise succession or in the acquisition of an enterprise. We have a wide international connections and partnership universities in many countries. International operations include exchange of students, trainees, teachers and experts, development of study contents in cooperation with foreign counterparts, internationalizing study plans and various R&D projects.

TUTORING
Tutoring teacher
When starting studies at SAMK every student is assigned a tutoring teacher. Tutoring teacher will guide a student in planning the study schedule and support his/her professional development throughout the education. Tutoring is implemented through individual guidance and in small groups.
The importance of the tutoring is emphasized in the beginning of studies, in proceeding to advanced studies, before graduation and in connection with different changes in a course of student's life. The goal of the tutoring system is an independent and responsible student.
Student tutor
Each student at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) is introduced to a student tutor right in the beginning of studies. Student tutor is a fellow student, who has volunteered to help new students with practical matters concerning the studies but also life in the new country and city in general.
SAMK arranges orientation days for new international degree and exchange students in the beginnig of each semester. The programme during the days is drawn up to help the students settle into student life and the new environment as quickly as possible. The programme introduces students to the various services, regulations and systems at SAMK. During the orientation programme the students will meet their International contact person and make more detailed plans for their study programme at SAMK.

Online notice board and Internet: Online notice board is in the internet in the campus site www.samk.fi/tekpo > In English. From this notice board you can find information about education. Please read it daily.
Pigeonholes: Each study group has its own pigeonhole in the entrance hall. There will be delivered personnel and group mails.

Library
The library of Technology and Business Pori is a versatile service centre. It provides library and information search services to students, personnel and others in need. The library has covering domestic and foreign material, both printed and electronic. It is possible to use online library services and to borrow material from other universities, unless the required material is not in our collection. You can borrow materials, also course books (loan period is 7 days), with SAMK library card for free, so there is little need to buy study books.

Meals
University students can buy meals at discounted prices in those restaurants which are included in the sphere of meal compensation. Compensation cards are given to new students in the beginning of their studies.
There is a student restaurant Tekatria in our campus where you can find a large selection of lunch alternatives. In the facilities of Business and Culture Pori you can find also Agora Bistro, which offers soup lunch and special coffees.
