Confidential data in a thesis
A finished thesis report is public and shall be evaluated by the supervisor. The supervisor shall also have access to the confidential data.
Take the possible confidential material into consideration throughout the thesis process, so the process of writing the report will be easier.
The thesis becomes public after the supervising teacher has approved it. All approved thesis reports are public – at the library or in the Theseus online library. Discuss with your client whether the thesis can be published online – even if it does not include any confidential data. Usually the client permits this.
Professional or company secrets must not be included in the thesis; they shall be kept in the background material. If the client forbids the presentation of certain information in the thesis report,
1) a separate, confidential version of the report can be made for the client with the information the client does not want to be published, or
2) only one report is made, and the confidential information is presented in an appendix which is attached to the client’s copy only. (Procedural Instructions)
This also applies to the abstract, which shall not include confidential data.
