Bachelor's and Master's Thesis
Every student aiming for a degree in a university of applied sciences does a thesis. The subject of thesis relates firmly to the field of studies. As a rule, the theses are done for companies, communities or public sector organisations. A thesis can be an individual work or a part of a bigger project.
The theses are one of the ways of transfering know-how between higher education and working life. The transfer is mutual. Every student doing her/his thesis has a supervisor at SAMK. The thesis work is guided also in the organisation for which it is done.
BACHELOR'S THESIS
The aim of the thesis is to develop and prove the student's skills of applying her/his knowledge and skills in a task of her/his professional expertise area. A Bachelor's thesis can relate to e.g. product, system or service development. The subject of thesis can also be a lay out design for a publication, a work of art etc.
Typically, the thesis is done quite in the end of studies. The extent of the thesis is 15 ECTS credits, which is equivalent to approximately 3 months full-time work.
MASTER'S THESIS
A Master's thesis a demanding working life development project, which is done throughout the Master's degree studies. The extent of the Master's thesis is 30 ECTS credits, equating approximately 6 months full-time work.
