Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK), faculty of social services and health care is participating in several projects organised by different partner
ELCANET – Family support in elderly care policies
Pori municipality is a partner in a network project involving elderly care. The project is active during 2011-2012, and it is a part of a wider network project NTT+, Network of Twinning Towns. The municipality of Ravenna in Italy is the manager of this EU commission funded project. The other partners are Borgo Val di Taro and Unione Terre Verdiane (Italy), Cambre (Spain), Mjölby (Sweden) and Jyväskylä, together with Pori, from Finland.
With network, Elcanet project tries to find and disseminate best practices and new approaches in elderly care. The main goal is to support families in elderly care, to ensure the elderly may have an active but also secure life at home or if sheltered.
The Faculty of Social and Health Care of SAMK is acting as a local coordinator in the Elcanet project. Furthermore, Sari Teeri, PhD Principal Lecturer of SAMK, is an international coordinator in the project, being responsible for the Education & Training group work. The other thematic groups are Activity & Prevention, Home services and ICT (information and communication technology).

EXPERTS FOR ORGANISATIONAL WORK IN THE 3rd SECTOR
SAMK is involved in a multidisciplinary project which produces experts for organisational activities (“Järjestöosaajana työmarkkinoille” project). The aim of the project is to improve the expertise of university staff in the field of organisational work and to increase awareness of university R&D work within the organisational sector. The administrator of the project is the Humak University of Applied Sciences and other project partners include University of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Diaconia University of Applied Sciences and University of Helsinki.
LIIKKU
The transregional ESF funded LIIKKU project is organized by the cities of Jyväskylä (administrator) and Tampere in cooperation with the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The project objective is to create a learning environment, named LIIKKUVA, to support welfare services and promote welfare entrepreneurship.
Another objective of the project is to develop high quality and cost efficient welfare services for the needs of the region. Entrepreneurial skills of different teams are also strengthened. During the project, multidisciplinary teams formed by students, companies and teacher-coaches of the region network by using social media, seek long-term solutions for development issues in the workplace, share best practices among themselves and diffuse these in the workplace.

[National project for developing education for statutory recording of electronic patient data, follow-up 2009-2010 (Phase 2)]
The main objective of this project is to renew nursing documentation recording practices. For nursing recording, a joint national model has been developed in the Finnish National Health Project.
Funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the subproject for the years 2008-2009 has been launched and it includes 14 different universities of applied sciences. The project is coordinated by the Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The project objective is to create new development cooperation between working life and education. Regional working groups formed by nurses working in various health care organisations and nursing teachers working in different project partner universities of applied sciences are being educated in this subproject to coordinate the necessary development work carried out in their respective regions.
TO CARE TO SHARE TO DARE
(Prevention of university student marginalisation 2009-2011) (DIAK)
SAMK is involved in this joint project administered by the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences. Named “Prevention of marginalisation during studies in a university of applied sciences” (“Syrjäytymisen ehkäiseminen ammattikorkeakouluopinnoissa”), the national project has the objective to support the well-being of both Finnish and foreign students of universities of applied sciences and the completion of their studies.
SPECIAL SKILLS NEEDED IN FUTURE WITHIN SPECIALIZED HEALTH CARE 2009-2011
SAMK is taking part in the project called “Special Skills Needed in Future within Specialized Health Care” (“Tulevaisuuden erityisosaaminen erikoissairaanhoidossa”). The project is a subproject of the SOTE-ENNAKOINTI project, implemented and coordinated by the North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium. In Varsinais-Suomi and Satakunta, the subproject is coordinated by the Turku University of Applied Sciences. Other project partners include the Hospital District of Southwest Finland and Satakunta Hospital District. In this subproject, new information is produced to support the SOTE-ENNAKOINTI project objectives and to generate added value with data concerning special expertise required in specialized health care and its future prospects.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR THE WELFARE CLUSTER
SAMK is involved in implementing a three-year Development Project for the Welfare Cluster in Satakunta (Hyvinvointialan yritystoiminnan kehittämisohjelma Satakunnassa). The project is administered by Prizztech Oy. In addition to the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, the project partners include Turku School of Economics, Pori Unit and the North Satakunta Adult Education Centre.
The objective of the project is to create favourable conditions for a successful welfare cluster in the Satakunta region. In addition to traditional care and nursing services, this cluster could include sports and culture services as well as services for tourists. The project is focused on creating new enterprises and developing the existing ones. One of the key objectives of the project is to build new networks and promote cooperation between different sectors.
KNOW-HOW IN THE AREA OF SOCIAL SERVICES FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF WORKING LIFE
Funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the project for 2007-2010 includes 18 universities of applied sciences. The project is administered by the Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences. The objective of the project is to study the work and expertise of bachelors/masters of social services and their status in the labour market by using a theoretical-methodological approach. So far, two project publications have been issued. These consist of articles written by teachers of universities of applied sciences. The first book, “14 puheenvuoroa sosionomien (AMK) asemasta Suomen hyvinvointijärjestelmässä”, was published in 2008 and the second, “Sosionomilta eivät hommat lopu – ammattikäytäntöjen kehittäminen haasteena sosionomi AMK -tutkinnossa”, in 2009. The third book will be published at the end of 2010, including an article by the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
A so-called profile work (profiilityö) has also been initiated in the project for which three working groups has been set. The first group examines the core and special skills of curricula and makes a motion concerning content unification of various degree programs. The second group studies higher education of Finnish social services in an international context. The third group focuses on the future labour market demand of expertise and how this expertise is produced in higher education of social services. The working groups will continue their work until September 2010, at which time they will also issue a publication. The project will end during fall 2010.
