Sataesteetön -project

Accessibility, what does it refer to?

Sataesteetön –project is carried out in the Satakunta region in Finland during the years 2009-2011 and it includes two subprojects: Home for All and Yyteri for All. The objective of the project is to promote accessible living in all age groups by using varied methods. The basic idea of the project is to offer benefits of accessibility to all.

Home for All

Home for All was built in the premises of the Satakunta University of Applied Scienses in 2010. The home functions as a simulation environment to observe, experience and test solutions, aids and newest innovations for accessible living. It has been planned and created in cooperation with the various project partners. For business partners, Home for All offers an opportunity to demonstrate and develop products and to utilize the home as a learning environment.

Results
- A unique model home presenting accessible living in Satakunta region.
- The home has been actively used in education, training events, meetings and product demonstrations.
- Valuable information has been collected on the suitability of products and fittings by conducting a user study.

Future vision
- Active development as well as planning and implementation of new innovations in the form of theses, courses and small projects.
- The facilities are offered for meetings, training events or product demonstrations.
- Cooperation with various faculties of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences and its partners.
- Offers a homely environment for businesses to bring different products for a test run, including products promoting home security, usability, accessibility and comfort.
- The companies receive feed-back on product functionality from users and through various user-centered studies carried out by experts and/or students.

Yyteri for All

Yyteri for All –project develops and increases accessible outdoor exercise and recreation services in the Yyteri region of Pori, on the west coast of Finland. The project offers activities that are open for all and is based on comprehensive equality. Special attention is also paid to physical conditions available in this region and to the social environment in order to enable full participation of disabled persons.

Results
- The project has increased accessibility competence among service providers and offered expertise in support of accessibility modifications.
- The project has also supported service providers to develop and offer services that are open for all and to organize adapted summer and winter sport events.
- Practical training of functional devices has been organized for students of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
- The project has increased leisure activity possibilities for persons with disabilities related to movement or function in the Satakunta region by developing and acquiring functional devices and aids.

Future vision
- Yyteri for All –model will be expanded in terms of sports and region.
- The charting of sports environments and services that are open for all in this region is continued.
- Any service providers not yet included in these activities will be offered a chance to increase accessibility competence and to develop leisure activities for all.
- Planning and implementation of activities that are open for all as well as development of equipments is carried out in cooperation with service providers, user representatives, experts and students in the region.
- Service modifications are systematically monitored in the form of questionnaires and theses.
- Activities and results of accessibility are reported nationally and internationally.
