NGN

SAMK boasts a unique learning environment for modern telecom networks, NGN New Generation Networks Laboratory. This carrier class laboratory consists of fixed and wireless systems, internet telephony servers, gateways and terminals as well as an intelligent network service platform. The core elements are global cellular systems GSM (2G) and UMTS (3G). SAMK is licensed to run radio channels and bands and utilizes own SIM cards in this network.

NGN laboratory greatly supports teaching of the Information Technology degree program. The professional Mobile Networks module consist of courses Telecom Networks, Radio Technics, Mobile Networks and Laboratory courses for Mobile Networks and for Intelligent Networks, altogether adding 20 ECTS credits. These courses are run in English on demand, i.e. in case of foreign exchange students participating.

Tailored training is arranged on request for any company or institute specific needs, what comes to the topics and extent of the training wished. Short courses (1-2 weeks) can be implemented, but also longer (e.g. 6 weeks). This kind of tailored training is always based on commercial terms. The course may consist of theory and practice, or hands-on practice only.

Research, development and innovation activities related to e.g. product verification or living lab testing are also hosted by NGN, this tailored according to the customer needs, too.
