Less expenses and more efficiency with virtualization
About one hundred workstations were virtualized at the Faculty of Business and Culture Pori in autumn 2009. Virtualization means that a workstation composed of an operating system and applications is located on a server from which it is possible to simulate virtual workstations to classroom devices. SAMK is among the first institutions in Finland to adopt this new virtual technology.
The new system greatly facilitates the work and services of IT people. New software is installed only on the server from which it is simulated to all workstations. In the future this system can offer such endless possibilities we cannot even imagine at the moment. Remote access available to SAMK’s students and personnel from home or on the road can be one of potential future uses worth investigating and utilizing.
