Satakunta University of Applied Sciences School of Maritime Management offers its students both long traditions and modern education. Instruction here in Maritime Management bases on the regulations set by the STCW-95 Convention. The external auditing and accordance with the IMO (International Maritime Organization) rules guarantee the quality of training and continuous development and progress.

Maritime training in Rauma has reached the 120-year milestone. More than 4000 students have completed their Bachelor or Officer's studies over these years. Today, in addition to the nautical studies, marine engineering students have their own program which qualifies them as engineering officers onboard.

Satakunta University of Applied Sciences School of Maritime Management is one of the smallest units with approx. 200 students, and to promote and smooth their path in realizing their goals there are about 15 teachers and other members of staff. Maritime training today is a hi-tech field requiring also good social skills thus great emphasis is placed on several special subject matters covering e. g the following fields of knowledge and skills: navigation, cargo handling and stowage, controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board, marine engineering, ship's maintenance and repair and marine radio communications. Additionally the following areas are covered: protection of marine environment, chartering and insurance policy as well as the crucial personal skills concerning organisational skills as well as skills in project - and decision-making. The training program consists of courses, which provide the students the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in these fields.

Rauma Maritime Management is well equipped with technical appliances and computer software. At our modern simulator students have an opportunity to practise their navigating skills. During their practical training students get hands on experience from working life and duties onboard ships. This training onboard also provides the students with practise required for certificates at different levels of training.

In addition to the degree programs Rauma Maritime Management also organizes further education. Included are for example the following courses: marine transportation, health care on board and shipboard management courses just to mention a few.
