More about Environmental Engineering
Environmental awareness will be very important in the future, when industrial processes, energy production and energy distribution are designed and planned in our modern society. Environmental engineering will play an important role in making our modern society work within the frames of sustainable development. Environmental engineering and its solutions will definitely be vital to our welfare, not only today but also in the future.
The approach of Environmental Engineering programme is multidiscipline. First, it educates engineers for designing, operating and managing sustainable and safe processes. Secondly, it provides skills to choose different types of advanced energy production technologies, to either replace or complete the fossil-based energy systems.
The work of an environmental engineer is challenging, because modern production and consumer habits are associated with growing environmetal interests. Priorities and environmental policies call for new multidiscipline solutions. Accordingly, a commitment to life-long learning is essential. Moreover, work as an environmental engineer can take you around the world.
Your studies
• drinking water supply, wastewater treatment and sanitation
• waste recycling and management
• industrial ecology
• future ways of energy production
• advanced and intelligent energy technologies and systems
• solar, wind, bio and geoenergy
• nuclear technology and radiation safety
• legislation, finance and governance
• ICT-applications in environmental and energy sectors
Goals of the studies:
• Environmental Engineering is a cross-scientific field of technology. In the Environmental Engineering degree programme the goal is to educate engineers who can design and run various industrial processes and energy production systems in a sustainable way.
• Since environmental engineering links people, it is necessary to understand how individuals behave and perform and how organizations and social systems function. To be successful in problem solving, environmental engineers must be able to communicate effectively with different personalities. Therefore, during the studies special attention is paid to learning fluent writing and speaking skills.
• The field of environmental engineering is international, and after your studies you will be ready and able to work as a member of an international team.
This is where you can work:
A degree in Environmental Engineering makes you qualified to work in various tasks relating to environmental protection and energy production. The major work areas include environmental protection, industrial ecology, radiation protection, hazardous waste management, toxic materials control, drinking water supply, wastewater management, waste recycling, public health and new, intelligent and advanced energy systems to replace or complete current fossil-based energy production systems.
The type of work you can do as an environmental engineer is very diverse. You can be a designer, a developer, a tester, a supervisor, an operator, a marketing or sales engineer, a project engineer, a government or local agency official or involved in professional association work.Your employers can be private companies, consulting companies, research institutes, universities, testing laboratories, local or government agencies, professional associations or international organizations. You can also establish your own enterprise.
The annual intake is 25 students. Tuition in English.
