More about Environmental Engineering
Environmental awareness is essential in modern society operations, e.g. industrial processes, energy production and energy distribution. Environmental engineering is an expanding branch all over the world, where there is need to control waste water and air pollution and ensure good quality drinking water. In fact, environmental problems can be solved by applying high technology in municipal and industrial manufacturing processes.
The approach of Environmental Engineering programme is multidisciplinary. It gives knowledge for engineers to design, operate and manage sustainable and safe processes. Secondly, it provides skills to choose different types of advanced energy production technologies, to either replace or complete the fossil-based energy systems.
The work of an environmental engineer is challenging, because modern production and consumer habits are associated with growing environmental interests. Priorities and environmental policies call for new multidisciplinary solutions. Accordingly, a commitment to life-long learning is essential.
YOUR STUDIES:
• drinking water supply and purification, wastewater treatment and sanitation
• waste recycling and management
• industrial ecology
• future ways of energy production
• solar, wind, bio and geoenergy
• nuclear technology and radiation safety
• environmental legislation and permissions
GOALS OF THE STUDIES:
• Environmental Engineering is a cross-scientific field of technology. In the Environmental Engineering degree programme the goal is to educate engineers who can design and control various industrial processes and energy production systems in a sustainable way.
• Since environmental engineering links people, it is necessary to understand how individuals behave and perform and how organizations and social systems function. To be successful in problem solving, environmental engineers must be able to communicate effectively with different specialists.
• The field of environmental engineering is international, and after your studies you will be ready and able to work as a member of an international team.
THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN WORK:
A degree in Environmental Engineering qualifies you to work in various tasks relating to environmental protection and energy production. The major work areas include environmental protection, industrial ecology, radiation protection, hazardous waste management, toxic materials control, drinking water supply, wastewater management, waste recycling.
The type of work you can do as an environmental engineer is very diverse. You can be a designer, a developer, a tester, a supervisor, an operator, a marketing or sales engineer, a project engineer, a government or local agency official or involved in professional association work.Your employers can be private companies, consulting companies, research institutes, universities, testing laboratories, local or government agencies, professional associations or international organizations.
