International Summer School in Finland

Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences (RAMK) and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) arrange the International Summer School in Finland on 21 May – 15 June 2012.
Summer School is a cross-cultural development course, where students have a chance to study in multicultural group and to go deeper into their field.

The Cross-cultural Development Course is divided into three different topics according to students’ fields of study:
    * The Health Care and Social Services Case: Cross-cultural view for analyzing the current social and health care services and for developing the future services
    * The Business Case: All Business is international
    * The Technology Case: Path to All IP - Evolution of fixed and mobile broadband networks

Each of these themes forms a 3 US credit hour (6 ECTS) course. Some of the key-note speakers are common to all three themes as well as the method of solving the problems in multicultural groups, formed of 6-8 students. The students work mainly with their own themes, and report their assignments using a virtual eLearning environment (Moodle).

There will be teacher-tutors from RAMK, SAMK, the American Magellan universities and some of the European partner universities guiding the working student groups.

In addition there are three other special courses available for the International Summer School participants:
    * Nature Trek in Lapland (1 US credit hour / 2 ECTS)
    * European Union Course (1 US credit hour / 2 ECTS)
    * Russia as business and co-operation region, including an excursion to St. Petersburg (1 US credit hour / 2 ECTS)

The intensive period of summer school starts in Rovaniemi, Lapland, 21 May 2012. The Rovaniemi period ends 1 June and students will move to Pori, to the west coast of Finland, where summer school continues 2 – 15 June 2012.
