Enrolling for the courses
You have to enrol for the courses of Open UAS at the latest two weeks before the beginning of the course through the Meerkado service (choose the right course and enrol for it). Students are accepted to the course in order of enrolment. If you cannot find a suitable course from Meerkado, you can leave your contact information by filling in the general form of open UAS.
You pay the participation fee when you enrol for the course in Meerkado.
NB! Degree students do not enrol by using the enrolment form of open UAS, but as usual on SoleOPs.
The participation fees of Open UAS:
- Course fee: 10 euros per credit
- If you complete 15 or more credits in an academic year, the fee is 150 euros for the whole academic year (e.g. so called path students and other students who take a lot of courses)
Studies are free for:
- pensioners (AV100)
- the unemployed (AV100)
- students studying in the second cycle (AV100)
- SAMK personnel (AV100)
- Students who include the studies in their personal study plan:
- Pori University Consortium (AV100)
- Co-operation between UAS
- Turku UAS, UAS students studying through the summerstudies.fi –portal (KY100)
If you are entitled to free studies and you enrol for a course through Meerkado, please remember to do following things:
- You should include group’s code AV100 or KY100 in your enrolment.
- In addition, you should use the email address of your institution when enrolling.
- You may need to provide proof for your entitlement for free studies.
If you cannot participate, you must cancel your participation at the latest two weeks before the beginning of the course by sending an email to: email@example.com. If the course is not cancelled two weeks before the beginning of the course, the whole participation fee will be charged. The fees for courses can be changed, e.g. on the basis of changes in legislation.
You can complete degree studies regardless of your age and educational background.
Most of the courses open for Open UAS students are the same courses the degree students take. In other words you study together with them. Some courses are arranged separately. In these cases the student group consists of Open UAS students only.
Performances can include exams, assignments, essays, reports and projects. More detailed information of performances is available in course descriptions. Partly web-based or online courses are also available.
One credit equals 27 hours of the student’s work. It can include e.g. contact classes, distant studies and assignments.
Tuition is provided on different SAMK campuses in Pori, Rauma, Huittinen and Kankaanpää.
You can start UAS studies without the entitlement to degree studies by completing path studies in Open UAS at SAMK.
Path studies consist of the basic and professional studies of the first and second year and the studies are carried out among the degree students. The studies can include day-time classes and blended learning with contact classes, assignments and online teaching. Path studies are available in the Faculties of Health and Welfare, Logistics and Maritime Management, Technology and Business Administration.
Specific path studies are arranged for some degree programmes which aim at the completion of 45 – 60 credits.
You can apply for degree studies on the basis of the Open UAS studies, if you have completed at least 45-60 credits suitable for the degree programme or 15 – 30 credits of Master’s degree studies (the number of prerequisite studies depends on the degree programme). In these cases the students don’t need qualifications stated in the law on universities of applied sciences (unless otherwise stated). However, students completing studies from a Master’s degree must always have an appropriate bachelor’s degree and three years of work experience before they can be accepted to Master’s degree studies on the basis of Open UAS studies (Act on Universities of Applied Sciences, §25).
The students are selected for degree studies on the basis of an exam or other selection criteria. Selection can involve an interview or assessment of aptitude. Path studies will be included into the degree studies after the student has received study entitlement to degree studies.
Inclusion of Open UAS studies
Open UAS studies can be included into the degree studies, if you start degree studies later. However, it is not possible to graduate and get a degree at Open UAS. Open UAS studies can be included in the degree studies, if they comply with the current degree requirements. If the degree requirements change, it is possible that you cannot compensate a course completely. Compensation and inclusion practices are different in different educational institutions but you can apply for inclusion and compensation on the basis of SAMK Open UAS studies in other educational institutions. When you complete Open UAS studies in advance, you can complete the degree faster.
Application for degree studies
You can apply for degree studies on the basis of the UAS studies, if you have completed at least 45-60 credits suitable for the degree programme or 15 – 30 credits of Master’s degree studies (the number of prerequisite studies depends on the degree programme). You can apply for degree studies in a separate application, which is arranged twice a year (May and November). Degree programmes open for application and the selection criteria are published in Studyinfo.fi. and you also apply for the degree programme there. The e-form for application will open, when the application period starts.
When you complete basic studies, you will get a transcript of studies, which will be sent to you as requested after the grade of the course has been recorded.
The transcript of studies includes the name, extent and completion day of the course. Upon request, you can also get a separate certificate of the completed courses.
