The degree programme in Social Services focuses on the promotion of the well-being of children, adolescents and families. With growing social uncertainty, problems related to intoxicants, mental health, behaviour and interaction have increased and become more severe among children, adolescents and families in recent years.
Content of education
The degree studies consist of professional studies of social work, social pedagogics, social counselling, child welfare, family work, social work with intoxicant abusers and mental health work, as well as development and management studies. The studies include a Master’s thesis which is based on the needs of working life and completed as a development task. Its extent is one-third of the degree studies.
The Master’s Degree in Social Services and Health Care is classified on level 7 in the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). This implies that the holder of this degree has an extensive and highly specialised knowledge, some of which is at the forefront of knowledge in his or her field, as the basis for original thinking and/or research.
The studies are implemented as blended teaching, and they can be completed in addition to a regular job.
Future work tasks
Those who have completed the Master of Social Services degree are capable of working in management, administrative and development tasks in the field of social services, and they can help and support individuals and groups in different situations through means of counselling.
Educational prerequisites for admission
The Master-level degree programme in Social Services and Health Care is intended for holders of a Bachelor of Social Services degree with sufficient work experience. Instruction is implemented in cooperation with Diaconia University of Applied Sciences.
