Applicant's checklist

Application

-Please see more information on bachelor's degree programs in English. Check the admission criteria of the degree program and make sure you fulfill the requirements. Satakunta UAS does not use discretionary admission.

  • main criteria for foreign degrees is that it gives the eligibility for higher education studies in the country in question. (Check accepted non-Finnish certificates from Oulu UAS website)

-All non-EU/EEA citizen need to provide IELTS or TOEFL certificate with the application. Please check the IELTS/TOEFL language test venues and dates and register for the test well in advance in order to get the certificate in time.

  • The required scores are IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 paper based/213 computer based/79-80 computer based test. Applicants with lower scores are not considered eligible to apply.
  • Only original TOEFL certificates sent from ETS are accepted. We do not accept original certificates sent by the applicant. The TOEFL code for Satakunta UAS is 0563.
  • Language certificate is valid for 2 years
  • Only non-EU/EEA applicants who have completed their primary and secondary school education in English in Great Britain, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, or a higher education degree (Bachelor/Master) in English in an EU/EEA country, are exempted from providing the language certificate. Education in English in any other country, even if the official language of the country would be English, is not accepted .

-Check the entrance exam countries and dates and make sure you have the possibility to attend the exam.Only students participating the entrance exam can be accepted.

  • All applicants will get invitation to the entrance exam in Finland, if there won’t be entrance exam in their home country. However, it is very unlikely for many non-EU/EEA  citizen to get a visa just for the entrance exam. Please make sure you have possibility to attend the entrance exam before applying.
  • Check also what is the situation in your country for getting the residence permit to Finland for studying.

-Fill in and send the online application form  by 14 February 2012 at 4.15 pm Finnish time.

  • Print a copy of the application and send it together with copies of original certificate with authorised translations to the admission office of your first choice university of applied sciences. If you are required to send a language certificate (see above) attatch copy of IELTS or make sure your TOEFL is delivered by ETS. All attachments need to be at the admissions office by 24 February 2012 at 4.15 pm Finnish time. Applications or attachments arriving late are not accepted.
  • You will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your application

-All applicants who have submitted their applications with adequate certificates by the deadlines and meet the admission and language requirements will be invited to the entrance examination in Finland or the FINNIPS examination abroad.

  • Personal invitation letter with detailed information will be posted as a hard copy and sent as an email attached PDF file by 20 March 2012
  • Applicants who have not been invited to the entrance examination, will receive a separate notification letter (Decision on eligibility) and can check the status of their application from the admissions office.

 

Entrance examination

-If you are invited to the entrance examination in Finland, please start your visa application process immediately. A visa is required unless the applicant's home country has signed a visa exemption treaty with Finland.

-Make travel and accomodation arrangements for the entrance examination in time

- Entrance examinations are held in April 2012.

  • Bring your passport/ID card used in the application procedure
  • Please note, you probably have to return to your home country after the entrance exam to apply for a residence permit if you are admitted to study in Finland

 

Admitted students

-All admitted students will get a personal notification of admission at the beginning of June 2012.

  • Results will be announced by 17 July 2012 at the latest.
  • Applicants who have not been admitted will receive a notification letter of their application status

-Admitted international students must apply for the residence permit to Finland if required. Please check the details from Finnish immigration office

  • Non-EU/EEA citizen are required to have a health insurance cover when applying for the residence permit.
  • If an international student is required to demonstrate his/her own fund for supporting living and studying costs in Finland, generally 6000€ per academic year is required

-Selected students must send confirmation of acceptance to the admissions office and enrol as present by 31 July 2012

-All selected students need to make sure they have an accomodation before they arrive.

-Make sure you have the timetable for first school day

  • bring the original school/degree certificate with you. The selection is not final until the originals have been checked.
